Thomas Tew Treasure Chest

This ornate, 150-pound metal chest was left behind in Newport, Rhode Island when pirate Thomas Tew sailed for the Indian Ocean in 1695. It survived to become the only known treasure chest with provenance to a pirate. But Tew was not so lucky. He was killed while attempting to raid an Indian merchant ship.
